The female anatomy is so incredible – and capable of immense amounts of pleasure. Many women and female-bodied people experience their first orgasms with a vibrator. These are usually clitoral orgasms.

One self-reporting study found that while 18.4% of women reported being able to orgasm from penetration alone, 36.6% reported clitoral stimulation was necessary for orgasm during intercourse, and another 36% said that, while clitoral stimulation was not needed, their orgasms feel better if their clitoris is stimulated during penetration.

While clitoral orgasms are incredible, there are different types of orgasms to experience. Whether you’ve never had a vaginal orgasm, or have had one before but can’t seem to replicate it – we’ve put together this guide to internal orgasms so you can experience more, deeper pleasure.

Before we dive into the tips, let’s clear one thing up – there’s no hierarchy of orgasms. The only thing that matters is that it feels good for you and your body. Also, know that there’s nothing wrong with you if you can’t have an orgasm solely from vaginal penetration.

Anatomy of an orgasm

There are a lot of different hot spots when it comes to female pleasure. The main ones you may know about are the G-spot, A-spot, cervix, and the clitoris. All of which theoretically can bring on an orgasm when stimulated.

We already mentioned that many people only orgasm from clitoral stimulation, well when it comes to the clit, there’s a lot more than meets the eye – literally. What you can see is actually the glans clitoris, however, the majority of the clitoris is not visible.

The rest of the clitoris has legs that create a sort of wishbone shape with the legs and bulbs extending through and behind the labia, passing by the urethra, vaginal canal, and towards the anus. Unlike the glans, these parts of the clitoris swell with blood when you’re aroused, making you more wet and more turned on.

The swelling of the internal parts of the clitoris is one of the things that can bring on
an internal orgasm, in addition to stimulating the other vaginal erogenous zones.

Now that you understand the anatomy of an internal orgasm – here are our hot tips on how to have one.

1) Bring in toys

While you can have an internal orgasm from a penis or fingers, the easiest way to start having them is by using toys specifically designed to stimulate the pleasure-packed zones inside you.

Here’s our favorites:

The Gold Zarah ($179 AUD) has a generously curved wand with a firmness that allows you to add gentle pressure to the erogenous zones inside the vagina that help lead to internal orgasms, and sometimes squirting. For some women, this wand may also reach the cervix!

The Eros Wand ($199 AUD) is made of pure Brazilian Rose Quartz with one bulbous thicker end for G-Spot activation and a longer tapered end for cervical massage. Her rounded ends feel smooth and sleek internally; pleasuring the vaginal canal and waking up all her juicy erogenous zones.

The Pussy Paddle® Glass Dildo Pleasure Wand is our most smooth, girthy double-ended glass pleasure wand designed to luxuriously stimulate the g-spot. With a bulbous sphere as a handle and a smooth, wide s-bend shape, this sexy glass dildo is a YPP favourite!

While we’re on the topic, don’t forget to grab some lube. The extra slip and sliding factor from our Yinn | Water Based Lubricant ($49 AUD) helps you sink into all the sensations building inside you.

2) LOTS of foreplay

Typically it takes longer to reach the level of arousal needed to have a vaginal orgasm. Getting yourself super warmed up, turned on, and juicy helps to activate these deeper erogenous zones, so that when you finally do stimulate them – you can feel deep amounts of pleasure and possibly an orgasm. Any type of foreplay that really turns you on is great here – making out, manual and oral stimulation, and whatever else revs your engines!

For a lot of people, it’s easier to have a vaginal orgasm after they’ve already had a clitoral one. This can help increase lubrication and blood flow to your vulva and vagina, making it easier to have an internal orgasm.

Foreplay isn’t just with a partner, you can take your time turning yourself on during solo sex by taking a sensual bath, giving yourself a massage, really taking your time with external stimulation before penetration.

3) Try different positions and angles

Different angles can feel better for different people, or stimulate different vaginal erogenous zones for the same person. You can explore different angles and positions whether it’s with a wand, strap-on, or a penis.

For many people, vaginal orgasms are easier when stimulating deep into their vagina, some positions that are great for that are:

  • Sitting on top or grinding on a toy or your partner
  • Doggy style – you can self-stimulate on hands and knees as well
  • Missionary with your hips elevated on a pillow or wedge with your legs up – you can get this angle by yourself by bringing your knees up toward your armpits

Switch it up and see what areas in your vagina are stimulated with different positions!

4) Trust your body

This is all meant to be taken as advice and gentle guidance. But when it comes to internal orgasms, or anything related to sex for that matter, it’s all about figuring out what works for you and your body.

This is a process of learning to trust your body and, if you’re having sex with a partner, your ability to communicate your needs and experience. When it comes to trusting your body, you can help get over mental blocks to orgasms by saying little mantras like

  • “I’m safe to experience deep amounts of pleasure.”
  • “I trust my body’s rhythms and needs.”
  • “I’m free to have powerful orgasms.”

This little Jedi mind trick may be the thing that sends you over the edge! There’s no rush or goal you have to meet, as long as you (and your partner) are enjoying the process.
