Your Anal Sex FAQs
We’re big fans of all things anal around here. Hence why we have a whole line of anal toys…
While anal play can come with a whole lot of pleasure it also comes with A LOT of questions.
Whether you’re brand new to back-door exploration or a seasoned vet, one of the keys to pleasure is education.
The more you know, the better you can prepare, communicate, and enjoy the experience. You probably didn’t get much, if any, anal education in sex ed, but we’re here to make up for it by answering all of your anal FAQs!
Q) Why does anal feel good?
Anal play can feel good no matter what anatomy you have, and yes, anal orgasms are real. For people with vulvas, there are a ton of nerve endings inside and around the anus. In some people the “legs” of the clitoris extend all the way down to the anus, allowing for indirect stimulation.
People with penises often enjoy anal play thanks to the prostate –– a small gland that’s surrounded by nerve endings and can be stimulated through anal play.
If anal play doesn’t feel good to you, that’s totally ok! You may want to try a different approach, toy, or technique, or it may not be for you.
Q) Can you get an STI from anal play?
Yes, you can get an STI from anal play especially if you’re being penetrated by a penis.
Anal sex can actually make you more susceptible to STIs thanks to the thin skin of the anus and lack of natural lubrication. It’s important to get tested, talk to any new partners about STIs, and use condoms when necessary.
Q) What’s the best way to get started with anal play?
First, talk to your partner about wanting to explore anal play “I’ve been really wanting to try so and so with you.” Of course, you don’t need a partner to try it out!
It’s important to start small, literally. That could mean a tongue “rimming”, a finger, or a beginner-friendly butt plug –– more on that further down.
Q) Do I need to use lube?
There are no ifs ands or buts about it, you need lube for anal play. The anus does not naturally lubricate itself.
Not only does lube make anal play more pleasurable, it also makes it safer to prevent discomfort, injuries, or small tears that can make you more susceptible to infections.
So do yourself a favor and grab some lube. Luckily for you, we now carry The Anal Lubricant from Yinn. This lube is extra hydrating, soothing, and safe to use with condoms and toys.

Q) Will anal play hurt?
While anal play may be a tad bit uncomfortable or intense at first, it should by no means be painful. If it is painful for you, you may want to try something smaller, use more lube, slow down, or take a break!
Q) Will it be messy?
We have to address the elephant in the room…the thing on everyone’s minds when it comes to anal is poop.
Generally, people don’t actually store feces in their rectums – which is the part of the anus that you’re exploring during anal play. So, as long as you’ve had a recent bowel movement, you should be in the clear!
Then again, sh*t does happen, so try to only explore anal with a partner you feel fully comfortable with. Some people also feel more comfortable doing an enema beforehand.
Q) How do I get my anus to relax?
It’s not uncommon to experience clenching in tension when trying out anal. So how do you get it to relax?
The key is to move slowly, have very clear communication with your partner, don’t try more than you can handle at a time, and be mentally prepared. You can even try telling your body, “You're safe to relax and experience pleasure.” Again, you also might need more lube.
Q) Can I try anal with a hemorrhoid?
This really depends on your body, the nature of your hemorrhoid, and your pain tolerance.
You really want to avoid any potential injuries around your anus, which may be more likely for those with hemorrhoids. Ultimately, this is a question for your medical provider.
Q) Can you squirt from anal?
Porn can have you thinking that everyone’s out there squirting from anal.
While it’s not common, you certainly can squirt from anal, especially if your anatomy allows for G-spot stimulation through the anus.
Whether or not you’re anticipating showers, a Splash Blanket is a great way to protect your bed from any potential overflow.

Q) What are the best anal sex positions?
The best anal sex position really depends on what feels good for you.
The most common ones people try out first are doggy (you can also try lying on your stomach in doggy) and missionary. Some other great ones to try are spooning and reverse cowgirl. You can try a play on these whether it’s with a penis, toy, or strap-on (yes that includes pegging).
Q) What are some good beginner toys?
Glad you asked!
Here are a couple of great beginner toys to try out…
The Cupie Glass Butt Plug ($44 AUD). Besides being super cute with a heart-shaped end, The Cupie is the perfect size for beginners or those wanting something a little on the smaller side.

The Bishop ($59 AUD) is a two-tiered glass butt plug that allows you to explore both a shallow and deeper option. Its wide base is great if you’re concerned about losing it (which won’t happen with any of our products).

Q) Is there anything I need to do after anal play?
Ok you tried anal play – now what?
You might be feeling a little tender, emotionally and physically. That’s totally understandable! It’s important to practice sexual aftercare to help you ground down after an intense experience.
You may also want to this Happie Holl: After Anal Cooling Cream. This cream is formulated for optimal skin rejuvenation after butt play, the gentle menthol tingle supports blood flow promotion to the skin, encouraging skin replenishment.
