Your body changes as you get older, and for most women and AFAB folks – so does your sex life.

One of the biggest changes women experience is menopause. But with age and menopause you are able to become that much more confident, embodied, and sure of yourself. You can see all of this reflected in your sex life.

Change is not bad. If anything it can be an opportunity to deepen your sex life, your connection with yourself, and your connection with your partner if you have one.

If you’re nearing menopause or are already in it, here’s your opportunity to explore a new era of your body, yourself, and your sex life! Sex may change, but with the right tips, it can just keep getting better and better.

Your body after menopause

Before we dive into the how, let’s have a little biology moment. You know that your period stops during menopause, but what other changes are happening in your body?

One of the biggest shifts that people experience during menopause and in the years leading up to it are huge hormonal changes. These hormone shifts can cause symptoms that affect your sex life like vaginal atrophy (when the vagina thins and loses elasticity), vaginal dryness, and changes to your mood.

Your libido

Another big biological change that can happen during menopause is changes to your libido. Libido is not something that will always be a given, sometimes you need to actively work on it to maintain it or “get it back” if you haven’t been feeling it.

One survey found that fewer than of women ages 57 to 73 reported being sexually active – and the ones that were having sex were doing it on average, less than twice a month. There are probably a lot of other factors and life changes that affect people’s libido in middle age, but it is something that can be worked on.

Some people decide to go on hormone replacement therapy to help them manage menopause and address their libido. That’s up to you and your doctor, but there are plenty of other ways you can work with the changes that come up in your sex life.

Slow it down

More than half of post-menopausal women report pain during sex. Your sex life may need to change and look different than it did before but it can still be just as juicy and enjoyable.

One way you can help avoid pain during sex while also deepening the experience is by slowing it way down. Giving your body time to adjust and acclimate to the sensations not only gives pleasure time to build, but also lets you, your body, and your vagina ease into the experience so there are no abrupt and painful sensations.

Lube is your best friend

Vaginal dryness is incredibly common amongst post-menopausal women. This is one of the reasons sex can be painful for many people in this demographic. That’s where lube comes in.

Lube is everyone’s best friend, menopausal or not, but it becomes even more necessary as your natural lubrication decreases.

Here’s a breakdown of all the lubes we offer:

  • YES Organic pH Balanced Lubricant ($25-$48 AUD) available in oil-based and water-based, this luxurious lubricant is certified organic, plant-based, and free of parabens, glycerine, hormones, and skin irritants.
  • Slippery Coco ($39.95 AUD), is a 100% certified organic, pH-neutral, hypoallergenic, and paraben-free lube. Originally created for people with sensitive skin, Slippery Coco’s unique multi-use formula has now proven to be a go-to favorite for our community of all ages, backgrounds, and needs.
  • Yinn Oil Based Lubricant ($49 AUD) is hand-made in small batches in Sydney, Australia using all-natural plant-based ingredients. This moisture-rich formula eliminates the need for reapplication to keep you fully in the moment.
  • Yinn Water Based Lubricant ($49 AUD) is a pure, plant-based lubricant. This oil-free formula offers sustained hydration and superior glide without stickiness or stained sheets.
  • Yoni Elixir Oil ($57.95 AUD) is made from natural and organic ingredients that are combined to create a smooth, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and healing oil, that provides long-lasting lubrication.
  • The Anal Lubricant ($54 AUD). Whether or not you’re using it for its namesake purpose, this is a long-lasting lubricant formulated with aphrodisiacal ginseng that promotes blood flow and increases receptivity.

Practice Kegels with a vaginal weight

Kegels are another great way to help maintain your vaginal health after menopause – and may also benefit your sex life. Doing kegels with weight resistance helps to increase blood flow to the pelvic floor and the vagina.

Just like you need a dumbbell to strengthen your bicep, you need a vagina weight to tone your yoni!

The strengthening and increased blood flow can help decrease symptoms like incontinence as you age. Another great benefit? This increased blood flow may also help improve orgasms!

Using yoni eggs while doing Kegels is an amazing way to start strengthening your pelvic floor muscles and enhance natural lubrication and libido. We offer a wide range of yoni eggs like the Rose Quartz Yoni Egg, Black Obsidian Yoni Egg, and Luxe Glass Yoni Egg.

If Yoni Eggs aren’t your thing, or you want a kegel weight with a permanent string/toggle included, you will love the Rose Kegel Weights. We created our Rose Kegel Weights to help people develop and maintain a strong and healthy pelvic floor and vaginal muscles. Having a kegel practice is also a powerful way to deepen your connection to your body, especially as it changes. This connection in itself can be transformative for your sex life.

Go at your own pace and revel in over 14 modules of sexually empowering masterclasses, tutorials, guided meditations, guest interviews and practical yoni egg exercises plus a monthly women's sister circle on Zoom on the first Wednesday of every month. If you desire consistency, connection and community, this VIP Golden Yoni portal is the perfect place to be. Sign up now for only $40/month with no lock in contracts.
