You can love coffee AND love your hormones: Why I add an egg to my morning "yoni-proof" coffee!
The bullet-proof coffee recipe for women who want happy hormones, balanced moods, more energy and heightened fertility.
I love my coffee, but I don’t always love how it makes me feel afterwards and what it does to my hormones. Can you relate?
I have discovered a way of consuming coffee that doesnt f*ck with your hormones and doesn’t make you crash 20 minutes after drinking it and wound up feeling wired and jittery. If anything coffee often makes me less productive, more moody, frazzled and wired.
So, do you want to know how I make coffee work for me and my hormones? (Watch the reel here.)
I add an egg to my morning coffee!
Hear me out before you cringe...
It's bulletproof coffee with a womb-loving edge!
I’m sure you’ve heard of bulletproof coffee, right? Well it’s basically similar to this method except you add an egg to the mixture. This makes your morning coffee extra frothy, creamy and full of protein - making it like a meal, rather than a drink that spikes your cortisol levels first thing in the morning and then makes you crash hard, become moody and irritable and unable to focus.
Why do we add these extra ingredients to a bulletproof coffee?
Bulletproof coffee has been around since Dave Asprey created the method in 2011 believing that it helped people sustain energy by embracing healthy fats by following a low-carb, high fat "keto" lifestyle.
The yoniproof coffee is essentially making your coffee into a womb-loving meal by adding one extra ingredient: the egg.
Below are the four unique ingredients for making a delicious yoni-proof coffee and an explanation for why we add these into the coffee.
1. Pasture raised egg: Adding an egg to your morning coffee, sounds revolting, but I promise it’s not once it’s all blended up. Adding an egg adds extra fat and protein and makes the coffee super creamy and frothy. Allow the egg to come to room temperature if you don't want it to taste too "eggy". Personally I don't notice the egg taste, but if you're sensitive to eggs you might.
A note on pastured eggs: It’s important to ensure your eggs are pasture raised since these chooks are free to roam in plenty of outdoor space in the sunshine, making happy chickens who produce healthier eggs. You can usually find them at your local farmers markets.
Pasture raised chickens forage their food and consume grass, bugs and worms and whatever yummy snacks they can find in the green pastures plus have access anytime to a trough of seeds. Free range chooks aren’t always free to roam outdoors, as you would expect. Pastured hens gets a minimum of 108 square feet of pasture for themselves, vs free-range chooks only get 2 square feet and pasture eggs have double the amount of Vitamin E and long-chain omega-3 fats.
2. Grass Fed Butter: When add butter to coffee, the fat in the butter breaks down into micelles or small droplets which bind to caffeine molecules. Since fat takes longer for your body to process, the fat allows the caffeine to be released more slowly and evenly into your system.
We also add a teaspoon of grass-fed butter to our yoni-proof coffee because butter is full of omega 3s and is believed to help boost immune system, slow digestion and provide longer lasting energy without the blood sugar crash. It also melts and makes the coffee creamy and frothy, like a latte. You can use MCT oil instead of butter if you prefer a vegan option, or you can also replace the butter with ghee. The healthy fats in ghee slow down the caffein absorption process of caffeine, preventing sudden spikes and crashes of energy. Ghee is thought to neutralize the acidity of coffee.
3. MCT oil or coconut oil: MCT is a compound that is made of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are essentially saturated fats that the body is able to metabolize quickly. So by adding MCT oil to your coffee it basically helps boost energy levels because the MCTs are metabolised quickly and used by the body for energy. It can also have anti-inflammatory effects, improve memory and help with gut health. MCT oil is also a vegan alternative to using butter. You can also leave out MCT oil if it's too stimulating!
4. Collagen: We add a scoop of collagen to the coffee to help with gut health, skin elasticity, hair & nails strength and to help any relieve joint pain. When our gut health is optimal, our cycle is more balanced because nutrients are absorbed more efficiently in the body. It took me a long time to realise this, but after being diagnosed with leaky gut last year by my nutritionist Jazmine from JH Total Health I am now able to absorb more nutrients and have a healthy 28-30 day cycle!
You can also add gelatine if you prefer, or any other superfood powder you're into, such as Super Feast Mason's Mushrooms.
If you prefer not to drink coffee, you can also switch it out for your favourite warm beverage such as Ceremonial Grade Matcha Green Tea, Ceremonial Grade Cacao or Yerba Mate Hot Chocolate "Love Mate". You can get both of these on our online store!
The Ingredients
Below are the ingredients for our delicious, frothy, yolky coffee. Remember to listen to your body. If your body doesn't agree with one or some of these ingredients, remove them or replace them with something else you enjoy.
- 2 scoops of ground organic coffee brewed in plunger (or if you prefer espresso) with boiling hot water (filtered or natural spring water is always best - not tap water)
- 1 raw pasture raised egg (you can use free range but read above why I prefer Pastured Eggs - happy chooks = happy eggs)
- 1 teaspoon raw honey or maple syrup (your choice)
- 30ml-50ml of milk of your choice (I use almond or oat milk)
- 1 teaspoon collagen powder (you can also use gelatin)
- 1 tablespoon of coconut MCT oil or regular coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon grass fed salted or unsalted butter (you can also use ghee)
- Pinch of sea salt
Yolky Yoni-Proof Coffee Method:
Making a delicious, frothy, yolky bulletproof coffee that’s also good for your cycle, mood, hormones and fertility, is super easy (and tasty!)
I recommend consuming this 3-5 times a week (not an everyday thing as your cholesterol might spike!). Here are the steps to make a yolky yoni-proof coffee:
Step 1: Brew hot coffee in a way that you love - plunger, espresso, moka pot on the stove - you do you boo! I add two scoops of ground organic coffee to a small plunger, add boiling hot filtered water and allow to brew for 5 minutes.
Step 2: Add all ingredients to your thermomix, food processor or blender (I don’t recommend a nutribullet as it might be too hot!). Add in the hot coffee, milk, egg (just the yolk and the white - not the shell), oil, butter, salt, honey and whatever other ingredients tickle your fancy. Blend for 5-10 seconds on high.
Step 3: Pour into your favourite mug and enjoy!! Sip slowly and enjoy and don't gorget to tag me in your instagram stories and posts: @rosie.rees (founder) and @yoni_pleasure_palace
Enjoy your new coffee recipe and share the love with other women who will benefit from this womb-loving, yoni-thriving coffee alternative.
You can also make this bullet proof coffee with chai or pumpkin spice!
