There are seven main energy centres within the body. They work from the base of the spine to the top of the head. In this five part series we will explore  how the five lower chakras have a direct impact on relationships.  We’ll teach you various techniques to help you  bring your chakras into balance and create harmony in your life.

the seven chakras

Root Chakra

The root chakra, also known as the Muladhara chakra, is the first chakra in the body’s energy system. It is located at the base of the spine and is associated with the colour red. The root chakra is responsible for our sense of stability, safety, and security in the world. It is also linked to our physical needs and our connection to the earth.

Relationships are an integral part of human life. Whether it’s with yourself,  family, friends, or romantic partners, relationships play a vital role in your emotional and psychological wellbeing. The root chakra is closely linked to your ability to form and maintain healthy relationships.

Blocked or Unbalanced Root Chakra

When the root chakra is blocked or unbalanced, you may struggle to form healthy relationships, finding it difficult to trust others or feel safe in their presence. This can lead to  fear of intimacy or a tendency to isolate from people who care. You may struggle to express emotions or communicate effectively, which can create misunderstandings and conflict. You may find yourself overly cautious, guarded, or even paranoid, fearing others will hurt or betray you. This can create distance and barriers in relationships, making it difficult to connect on a deeper level.

An unbalanced root chakra can impact self-worth and confidence, which can in turn negatively affect your relationships. You may struggle with feelings of insecurity and low self-esteem, leading to  validation seeking.

It can impact our ability to maintain healthy boundaries, leading to tension in  relationships. By working to heal and balance the root chakra, you can improve your relationships and live a more fulfilling life..

Overactive Root Chakra

When the root chakra is overactive, you can become aggressive or defensive in communication. This may lead to confrontations and arguments, where you may present as  overly confident or arrogant, pushing others away. You may feel threatened or challenged by your partner, and this can lead to explosive arguments and conflicts. This can be particularly challenging if you struggle to control your emotions or react impulsively.

Creating healthy boundaries can be challenging with an overactive root chakra and it’s difficult to maintain healthy relationships by becoming overly attached, possessive, clingy, or controlling, seeking to exert power and dominance over others. This can create tension and conflict in relationships, as others may feel suffocated or overwhelmed by your need for control and contact.

Feeling the need to control your partner or be constantly near them is an indicator of an overactive root chakra. This can result in a lack of trust, intimacy, and connection, and can even lead to the breakdown of the relationship. It can cause you to become overly focused on material possessions or external security measures. You may become obsessed with accumulating wealth, possessions, or other external measures of security, which can lead to a lack of connection and intimacy in relationships leaving the partner feeling neglected or unimportant.

Balanced Root Chakra - Ideal

When the root chakra is balanced, you feel grounded, safe, and secure in relationships. You’re able to trust others and yourself feeling comfortable expressing emotions and needs. A balanced root chakra allows you to communicate and empathise with others, improving your relationships.

A balanced root chakra helps you set healthy boundaries. You can recognise your own needs and desires and communicate them effectively, while also respecting the needs and boundaries of others. This can create a sense of mutual respect and understanding ,which can help prevent misunderstandings and conflict.

In addition, a balanced root chakra can improve your sense of self-worth and confidence. When you feel grounded and secure in yourself, you’re able to show up fully and connect with others authentically. This can help us to form more fulfilling relationships and improve your overall emotional wellbeing.
