No matter where you are in the world or what your background is, the holidays are a time to celebrate life.

A time to come together in community and family (whatever that means to you). To cherish and lean into the spirit of festiveness, joy, and what it means to be truly interconnected with one another.

Still, the holidays can bring up all sorts of emotions from grief, to anxiety, to anger, to just general melancholy. You’re not alone in this, and you don’t have to fake positivity when you’re just not feeling it.

What you can do is find ways to ground yourself and bring you back into your body so you can be present with whatever and whoever is in front of you. Here are five practices to help you do just that.

1) Try a grounding meditation

If and when you get triggered during the holidays, or you just need a little something to sink back into yourself, it’s great to have a grounding meditation on hand to help stop whatever stories are playing in your mind.

This Self Acceptance Meditation ($5 AUD) helps you to feel a sense of self-love, even when it feels unattainable and impossible to reach. Drop into this meditation to come into a surrendered space of acceptance brings much-needed relief.

The sense of interconnectedness can also be incredibly painful during the holidays when family strains and grief feel extra fresh. Our Energetic Cord Cutting Visualisation ($10 AUD) helps to recover energy that has been lost and to re-establish healthy energetic boundaries. This visualisation is an ideal process for someone who feels they have an unwanted connection to someone who has caused them harm and is draining their precious life force energy.

2) Process in your journal

To get back into your body, you need to be able to release some of the pressure that is brewing in your mind. A journal practice is one of the best ways to do that. We love these beautiful journals lovingly crafted by Sammi Johnson.

Try just putting pen to paper and letting it flow with no pressure. If you need some guidance, try asking yourself these questions:

  • What about the holidays feels so tender?
  • How would I like to feel during the holidays?
  • What are 3 action steps I can take to change my experience this holiday season?

Remember it doesn’t have to be anywhere close to perfect –– just let your thoughts flow out of your mind and onto the paper.

3) Lean into rest

You have been busting your little booty all year and you deserve all the rest. Even though the holidays are supposed to be about rest, if you’re bouncing around between family dinners and holiday parties, it can be difficult to find time to just breathe!

Allow yourself to slow down or find small moments of respite, no matter how hectic the holidays are for you.

You can do this by taking a bath, going for a nice nature walk, taking a dip in the ocean, or even taking a midday snooze –– how luxurious!

4) Treat yourself

New Year's resolutions can wait until after, well, the New Year! As you’re likely surrounded by your favorite treats and sweets, now is the time to let yourself indulge and enjoy.

That being said, it’s great to balance it out by snacking on veggies or having a fiber-filled salad before going to a party where you know you’ll be eating all your favorite goodies.

Life is about pleasure, and the holidays really embrace that. So let yourself experience all the delicious tasty pleasures this holiday season –– within reason of course!

5) Prioritize your pleasure

On that note –– to drop back into your body, prioritize your pleasure in every way.

Find time to focus on yourself (with or without a partner) and the pleasure that’s available to you in your body.

The Master(bation) Guide is now available for free so you can explore all the different types of pleasure and tools available to you. This guide tells you all about our different toys, and which ones are best suited for you.

It also covers:

Tapping into your sense of pleasure is one of the best ways to drop back into your body during the ups and downs of the holidays!
