Ugh let’s go here shall we, let’s talk about T.h.r.u.s.h.

What is it? Put simply, it’s an overgrowth of yeast called “candida albicans.” This yeast lives naturally in the vagina in small numbers, the issue becomes when the balance is disrupted and it multiplies.

Stats show that Thrush affects around 75% of women at some point.

Symptoms can include a white ‘cottage cheese’ like discharge, as well as irritation and itching, and even soreness and stinging. To be real – it’s just bloody uncomfortable right!

What Causes Thrush?

A number of causes can lead to thrush, from antibiotic use, oral contraceptive use, menstrual cycle changes, diet and lifestyle, sex (although you can’t catch it, it isn’t an STI), and even in some cases pregnancy can be a trigger for thrush.

Preventative lifestyle tips when it comes to Thrush:

You can take preventative measures like ensuring you let your yoni breathe especially if you’re always in tight clothes like active wear – swap your tights for a flowing skirt, sleep naked and even change the type of underwear you wear to ensure its yoni friendly - cotton or bamboo are super breathable options. Also staying hydrated and eating wholesome fresh foods, limiting sugars, and avoiding douches and perfumed soaps and sprays – remember your yoni is a self-cleanser!

What could your Yoni be trying to say?

When it comes to the energetics of our not so fun friend Thrush, it is said that it feeds on what is not digested by life. What have you not processed? Often it is linked to feelings of repressed anger.

Where perhaps are you feeling out of balance and not speaking up?

Do you feel connected to your inner power and confidence?

Is something eating away at you?

These are the questions to feel into if thrush is showing up for you.

Let’s talk treatment - both medicinal and holistic.

Treatment can be a pessary or an oral tablet from the chemist, and there are many holistic treatments out there too. As a prevention and symptom reliever we are super passionate about our yoni steam herbs and the ancient ritual of steaming itself. A yoni steam works by applying gentle heat, as well as moisture that carries essential herb oils to the exterior tissues of the vagina and perineum area. The warmth and moisture increases circulation to the labia, causing it to swell and expose the inner labial mucus membranes. It’s an amazing way to cleanse, nourish and for general yoni healing too.  You can also check out our Sacred Ceres Wand – an ancient healing tool for rebalancing the vagina and also our yoni pearls. Let’s continue the conversation in the comments or join us over on Instagram, how does thrush show up for you? Have you noticed the link between your emotional state and the physical manifestation of thrush?

Love the YPP team. xx
