Yoni eggs are a helpful tool for enhancing pelvic health, increasing body awareness, and nurturing your feminine energy. If you're new to this practice, understanding how to use yoni eggs effectively will help you achieve the best results. Here’s a detailed guide to get you started.

  1. Choosing the Right Yoni Egg Size

Yoni eggs from the Yoni Pleasure Palace online store come in three different sizes—small, medium, and large. Each size serves a different purpose and offers various benefits. We usually suggest investing in a set of three so you can explore all sizes, weights and stones. For beginners, selecting the right size is crucial to ensure comfort and effectiveness.

    • Medium Size for Beginners: A medium-sized yoni egg is generally recommended for those just starting. This size strikes a good balance between ease of use and the ability to stimulate your pelvic muscles effectively. It’s substantial enough to provide resistance and engage your muscles but not so large that it feels cumbersome or uncomfortable.

    • Small Eggs: Small yoni eggs are easier to insert and may be suitable if you’re very new or if you have a smaller pelvic cavity. They can be less intimidating for beginners. However, they might not provide as much resistance, which could limit their effectiveness in strengthening the pelvic floor muscles.

    • Large Eggs: Large yoni eggs offer more resistance, which can be beneficial for advanced users looking to build muscle strength. However, they can be more challenging to insert and might cause discomfort if you’re not used to them. For beginners, it’s often best to start with a medium egg and only move to larger sizes as you gain experience and confidence. The larger size may also be easier to use as the egg is bigger and thus there's more surface areas for the vagina to grip around. Women/folks who have given birth vaginally two or more times may consider getting a larger egg.

Material Considerations: Yoni eggs are made from various stones, each with unique properties. Popular choices include:

    • Nephrite Jade: Known for its smoothness and soothing energy, jade is a traditional choice that is gentle and supportive.
    • Rose Quartz: Valued for its nurturing and loving qualities, rose quartz can help foster a deep connection with your body.
    • Obsidian: A grounding stone that offers more resistance, making it a good option for more advanced users.

  2. Understanding Sensation and Comfort

It’s normal not to feel the yoni egg after it’s been inserted. Many people find that the egg becomes less noticeable once it's inside, especially if it’s the right size and you’re relaxed. This is due to the natural elasticity of the yoni, which adapts to accommodate objects like tampons or menstrual cups comfortably.

Other reasons You Might Not Feel It:

    • The yoni is designed to expand and contract. Once the egg is inserted, the vaginal walls may surround and hold it securely, making it less noticeable.
    • As you use the egg, your pelvic muscles may naturally grip and hold the egg in place, which means you might not feel it as prominently. This doesn’t mean the egg isn’t working; it’s a sign that your muscles are engaging properly.
    • You may have some vaginal numbness from sexual trauma, birth trauma, surgical trauma or simply from lack of stimulation.

If you experience pain, discomfort, or an unusual feeling, it could be a sign that the egg is too large or that you’re not fully relaxed. Remove the egg, take a break, and consider trying a smaller size or a different material if needed.

  3. Maintaining Hygiene and Care

Maintaining hygiene is crucial for safe use. Before and after each use, clean the yoni egg with warm water and a mild, unscented soap or a cleanser oil or spray - you can find those here. Avoid harsh chemicals or soaps with fragrances that can irritate your sensitive tissues.

After washing, dry the egg thoroughly with a clean, dry towel. Store the egg in a clean, dry place to avoid any contamination. Some users choose to keep their yoni egg in a dedicated pouch or container for added protection. All our yoni eggs come with a velvet pouch for safe keeping. You can also choose to add on a black YPP storage box like this

Yoni eggs can come non-drilled or with a drilled hole to tie string through to retrieve it. So if you order a drilled yoni egg, make sure you change the string each time (you get this with your egg) and clean the hole by blowing through it and flushing it with warm soapy water.

  4. Begin with Short Sessions

Begin with shorter sessions, around 10 to 15 minutes, to allow your body to adjust to the presence of the egg. This initial period helps you get used to the sensation and avoids overwhelming your muscles. Yoni Pleasure Palace founder Rosie Rees has a foundational course called the 7 Day Yoni Egg Immersion, which can help get you started!

As you become more comfortable, you can gradually extend the length of your sessions to a couple of hours, but no longer than 3-6 hours at a time - this is to prevent pelvic fatigue. This gradual approach helps you build strength and familiarity without causing discomfort.

You don’t have to squeeze constantly to keep the egg inside your vagina. Just like wearing a tampon, your vagina holds the egg inside naturally without needing constant contraction.

If you have given birth and the egg pops out every time you stand up (gravity will do this!), start with lying down with it inside or sitting and doing some kegel exercises (pelvic floor exercises). Some women also like to sleep with the egg inside, which can be either very relaxing or very stimulating depending on which crystal you use.

  5. Lubrication for Insertion Ease

Organic water-based or oil-based lubricants like these can facilitate smoother insertion and removal of the yoni egg. Simply apply a small amount of lubricant to the egg and your vulva and gently and slowly roll the egg around the entrance first to familiarise your body with the stone. This can help reduce friction and make the process more comfortable, especially if you’re feeling tense or dry.

We suggest the YINN organic lubricant range, which are free of added fragrances or chemicals that could irritate sensitive tissues. Always opt for natural, hypoallergenic options whenever possible, as our vagina absorbs lubricant into the blood stream - just like anything we insert into our mouth or anus.

  6. Circle the Vestibule Before Insertion

We always recommend circling the yoni egg around the entrance of the vagina first before inserting the egg. Waiting, allowing, pausing, breathing and gently circling the egg around the vaginal entrance/vestibule not only prepares your body for the egg, but it's also a gentle foreplay method. It's important not to rush or force the egg in (like you might a tampon - we don't suggest that either). Take your time with the insertion process. Ensure you’re relaxed and don’t rush. If you encounter any resistance, gently adjust the angle or position and try again later.

Sometimes insertion can take 2 minutes, 15 minutes, or even weeks to work up to. Be gentle with your vagina and wait for her to say "YES". Try different positions to find what is most comfortable for you during insertion. You might prefer lying down, sitting on the edge of a chair, or standing with one leg elevated. Each position offers a different angle and level of control.

  7. Listen to Your Body’s Signals

Pay close attention to how your body feels during and after using the yoni egg. It should be a pleasant and comfortable experience. If you experience any pain, discomfort, or unusual symptoms, remove the egg and rest. If you wear your egg for too long it may create a bloating discomfort in the belly - this is a sign your pelvic floor muscles are fatigued.

If discomfort persists or if you have any concerns about your pelvic health, consider consulting a healthcare professional. They can provide guidance and ensure that you’re using the egg safely. If you have any problems or issues with retrieving your egg, please feel free to email us direct here or join our private Facebook group where you can post anonymously.

  8. Incorporate Yoni Eggs into Your Routine

o gain the most benefit from your yoni egg, incorporate it into your regular routine. Aim to use it a three times a week, balancing your practice with rest periods to prevent overuse. As you gain more experience, you can adjust the frequency and duration of your sessions. Listen to your body and find a routine that works best for you. We recommend using your egg for seven days in a row (with these specific exercises) to get the most out of it.
