Have you had thoughts coming up about who you’re attracted to or drawn to? Maybe you’ve always had these thoughts but you’re done ignoring them.

You’re (definitely) not alone.

One study found that 67% of “exclusively heterosexual female respondents” reported having thought about or questioned their sexuality – and that’s only representing straight identifying cis-women.

Science knows it, we’re here to back it up, it’s incredibly common to question your sexuality. Still, those thoughts can come with a wide range of emotions from excitement, to nervousness, to confusion.

Your sexuality is yours to explore and we’re here to guide you through it with these tips.

1) Stay curious and be gentle with yourself

No matter what emotions or feelings are coming up, know that they’re all valid. It can help to take inventory of these feelings, journal about them, and see where they’re coming from.

Be gentle with yourself and your journey of exploration. Exploring your sexuality is one of the most human experiences you can have and it’s important to meet yourself with gentleness and compassion.

Try reflecting on these questions

  • What sort of relationship do you envision yourself in?
  • What sexual fantasies keep coming up for you?
  • Are you interested in exploring a queer relationship romantically and/or sexually?

These questions are open-ended, there are no right answers, plus your answers can evolve. There’s no rush to arrive at a decision or a destination, just simply follow your curiosity.

2) Find community

Remember how we said you’re not alone? Well, it’s 100% true. One of the most beautiful things about queer people is their commitment to coming together in community to support each other and celebrate life.

You don’t have to have a label on your sexuality to find community, but reaching out to other queer people through social media or going to events can help give you the inspiration and support you need.

Everyone’s sexuality exploration is their own unique journey, but there’s also so many universal experiences. Having people to ask questions to, bounce ideas off of, and generally just celebrate life and love with makes the journey that much more enjoyable.

Another great resource is the Facebook group Girl Meets Girl – "GMG is a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community to initiate conversations, meet like-minded women, share stories, ask questions and share any fears about asking a woman out.

Whether you want to explore sexually or seek a relationship with a woman, this space is common ground to put out there what you want and hopefully meet the love (or lover) of your life."
This inclusive group is open to cis and trans-women!

3) Have fun with it

Speaking of enjoyable, exploring your sexuality is meant to be fun. Sure it can be intense or confusing sometimes. But when it comes down to it, your questioning is likely coming from a part of you that wants a deeper experience of being human and exploring pleasure and connection.

Having fun doesn’t have to mean dating around and hooking up with people left and right, although if that’s what feels right for you then absolutely go for it. Having fun can also mean releasing the pressure of needing to arrive at a certain place or label and just enjoying wherever your curiosity takes you – in your mind and your body.

If you do decide to explore, remember to prioritize your sexual health. Lorals Panties are single-use, natural latex panties designed to make oral sex and rimming a pleasurable experience for all.

Remember that your sexuality isn’t defined by who you date or have sex with. Even if you never explore queer dynamics, you decide your sexuality (and only you).
