Have you ever found a used dildo or vibrator hiding out in your bedside table drawer covered in a layer of dried sex juices? Your’re not alone! We understand that cleaning your sex toy is the last thing on your mind after a mind-blowing orgasm, but even in your post-coital glow, cleaning your sex toy is just as important as learning how to use it.

Sex toys get intimate with our most intimate places and can last a lifetime when cared for properly. However when not cleaned correctly it may a) negatively affect the integrity of the toy but also b) put you at a sexual health risk. If not cleaned properly, you could receive a nasty UTI, thrush or a yeast or bacterial infection - yep, even if you’re only using it with yourself. No thanks!!

Future-you will be eternally grateful if you take a few minutes to turn your bathroom tap to hot and clean your toy after you use it. Loving your toys means cleaning your toys, so let’s give those toys the deep clean they deserve! We recommend cleaning your toys after every single use.

Let's learn how to practice best sexual hygiene! *Loops arms and skips together*

Glass Dildos Cleaning Instructions

Our glass dildos are made of 100% borosilicate glass that have undergone a process called “annealing”, which is basically when the dildo is put into a 530 degree oven. This guarantees there are no defects and makes it the strongest body-safe glass that can be used internally. Only the best for your genitals babe!

That means your glass dildo from YPP can withstand very high and very low temperatures. To deep clean your glass dildo we recommend sterilizing in boiling hot water on the stove top or in a pyrex bowl with boiling hot water from the kettle. This is sufficient.

If you don’t fancy popping into the kitchen at 2am in the morning to wash your glass dildo after a good self pleasure session (totally fair enough), a thorough wash in the bathroom sink with warm, soapy water is sufficient.

We suggest deep cleaning your glass wands every couple of months, or if you haven’t used your dildo in a long period of time. Simply rest your glass dildo in boiling water for 5-10 minutes. Do not, I repeat, do not boil your crystal wands or eggs!

We are all about eco, natural, chemical-free ingredients so at YPP we offer a cleansing spray and a cleansing oil with absolutely zero nasties! You can also get the bundle here

If you’re clumsy and prone to breaking things, here’s a hot tip. Have a medium-large size tupperware container in your bathroom where you can place your dildos inside of when you clean them. That way you can also add a few drops of cleansing oil or spray (or any soap is fine, but less chemicals is best) and roll your dildo around in the warm soapy water to clean it.

If you have an extra goopy wand, you know…the one that you found in your bedside drawer from a few weeks ago, we suggest soaking it for 10 minutes.

For glass wands with deep ridges, like the Sacred Squirter or Cervix Serpent, we recommend getting into the crevises with a sex toy tooth brush! This will ensure no bacteria can harbour in these spaces. Just don’t forget to make a mental note of which tooth brush is for your sex toys, not your teeth!! #funnynotfunny

When using your glass toys for anal play, we recommend being even more stringent and thorough with your cleaning process and ensuring that all fecal matter, lubricant or bodily fluids are washed off before storing away. This will avoid any bacteria harbouring on the toy, which could lead to an infection. Wash for 1-3 minutes with warm-hot soapy water to ensure it is 100% clean! Give it the sniff test to be sure it’s clean.

Crystal Dildo Cleaning Instructions

Caring for your crystal toys takes a little more time, effort and tenderness than your man-made glass friends. Being a pretty rock from mother earth, it requires some extra TLC.

Here are some do’s and don’ts:

DO:

  • Wash your crystal toys in warm water with a few drops of our signature cleansing oil or spray. You can also use a gentle non-toxic soap.
  • Allow to dry before storing away
  • Store in the YPP pouch or box for safe keeping
  • Keep it up high and away from small human hands
  • Cleanse & energetically charge regularly or at least once a month under a full moon. You can also cleanse your stone by smudging, washing in salty ocean water, leave in sunshine for 10 minutes or ground on the earth (remember where you put it!)
  • Wash after every use with a gentle, fragrance-free soap or our YPP cleaning products

DON’T:

  • Boil your crystal toy in boiling hot water. It will crack internally or ruin the integrity of the stone.
  • Wash in the shower (you can’t imagine the horror stories we’ve heard of dropping your beloved quartz dildo dropping on the tiles…)
  • Glue your wand back together and use it. No, no, no. Glue = toxic.
  • Leave it in the bed covers after using it. When you go to make your bed and it flings onto the floor and breaks, you won’t be a happy chap.
  • Bleach or put into the dishwasher. I mean, honestly, who does this!?
  • Forget to wash after every use or if you haven’t used it in a long time.

When using your crystals for anal play, we recommend being even more stringent and thorough with your cleaning process and ensuring that all fecal matter, lubricant or bodily fluids are washed off before storing away. This will avoid any bacteria harbouring on the toy, which could lead to an infection. Wash for 1-3 minutes with warm-hot soapy water to ensure it is 100% clean! Give it the sniff test to be sure it’s clean.

Vibrators or Silicone Toys Cleaning Instructions

To keep your vibrator or silicon toy in tip-top condition, it’s important that you clean it in a specific way to ensure the longevity and functionality of the sex toy.

Now, first things first, if you’re using a silicone vibrator you are most likely using a lubricant of some variety because let’s face it - LUBE MAKES EVERYTHING BETTER. If you have used a water-based lubricant on your vibrator, it will wash off easy peasy, hence why it’s called “water-based”. If you have used an oil-based lubricant, you may need to give your vibrator a deeper clean (see below). But whatever you do, don’t use silicone-based lubricants on your silicone sex toys. It sounds counterintuitive, but silicone lube will react with the surface material of your vibe and eventually break down your sex toy. Silicone-based lubes, however, are completely safe to use with anything hard like glass, ceramic, steel, alloy or plastic.

Here is a step-by-step guide to cleaning your motorized toys or silicone dildos:

  1. Wash your vibrator in warm water - do not boil or submerge in water (especially if it’s battery operated) unless it is completely waterproof. FYI all our YPP vibrators are 100% waterproof.
  2. Spritz the toy with our natural toy cleanser spray (ideally not the cleanser oil) or use a fragrance-free soap that is non-toxic and wipe down with a damp cloth.
  3. You can also wipe your toy down with a sex toy antibacterial wipe. But honestly, do the planet a favour and don’t use single-use wipes!
  4. Ideally pad down with a clean dry towel before storing away and wait for it to dry before storing in a dark, cool place.
  5. Avoid keeping uncovered as it may gather dust! Wrap in a scarf or keep in a storage pouch or box.
  6. This is not cleaning related…but do yourself a favour and don’t forget to recharge. There’s nothing worse than your vibe running out of juice when you need it most!

For deep cleaning, you can submerge your non-battery operated and non-motorised (AKA it doesn't vibrate) silicone dildo in boiling hot water for 5 minutes. Silicone toys are non-porous meaning you can boil it in boiling hot water.

When using your silicone toys for anal play, we recommend being even more stringent and thorough with your cleaning process and ensuring that all fecal matter, lubricant or bodily fluids are washed off before storing away. This will avoid any bacteria harbouring on the toy, which could lead to an infection. Wash for 1-3 minutes with warm-hot soapy water to ensure it is 100% clean! Give it the sniff test to be sure it’s clean.

How To Clean Yoni Eggs or Kegel Balls

Pelvic floor strengthening is an important part of vaginal self-care, and if you’re a YPP fan or a member of the Golden Yoni Membership, you will know all about Yoni Eggs and the importance of vaginal toning. It’s very important to wash and clean your yoni eggs and kegel balls after each use, especially if they have a drilled hole for string.

Here is a step-by-step guide on cleaning your yoni eggs and kegel balls:

  1. After using your egg or ball, wash in warm soapy water. Do not boil unless it’s a Nephrite Jade Egg or a glass egg, otherwise the crystal yoni eggs will crack under the pressure of the boiling hot water.
  2. If you have a drilled egg or ball, please rinse the drilled hole thoroughly with warm water. You can blow through the hole to flush any vaginal fluid or water out and ideally use a straw cleaner/tooth pick brush to clean the drilled hole.
  3. Change the yoni egg string after every use. Don’t keep reusing the same string every time as this will harbour bacteria
  4. Pad dry with a towel or leave somewhere safe to dry.
  5. Store in the YPP pouch and keep away from small human hands!
  6. Ensure your eggs are covered as they may gather dust if left on your altar or bed side table.
  7. Wash before every use.

Washing & Drying Your Squirt Blankets

As you may or may not know, the founder of Yoni Pleasure Palace created and designed the world’s first luxurious waterproof sex blanket in 2020 and it fast became a popular (and essential) household sex toy product, especially for squirters. So popular that the founder, Rosie Rees, created an entire separate brand for the product, now known as Splash Blanket™. We still call them their original name “squirt blankets” here at YPP!

Splash Blankets are not only 100% waterproof, they are stain-proof, oil-proof, lube-proof and incredibly durable, plush and innocuous. No one would know they are a sex blanket if it was draped on your couch!

Splash bBlankets come in a range of materials such as fleece, velvet, microfibre, bamboo and cooling fabric, as well as a padded mat. Each blanket has a slightly different way of washing so please read below for clarification.

We recommend washing your Splash Blanket™ on a similar setting to your towels or bed sheets washing cycle – one with a fast spin! It’s best to wash your Splash Blanket™ separately on a cold or warm temperature cycle (20 degrees celsius maximum) adding in one scoop of washing liquid or powder.

If you wash your blanket on a delicate or gentle wash, the spin cycle will not remove the water effectively so we recommend a fast-spin wash. If you find yourself with a stain such as blood, wine or another bodily fluid, use a stain remover spray and soak for 3 - 5 minutes before adding it in the wash.

Drying Your Squirt Blanket

To dry your wet blanket you can either a) line-dry indoors or hang outside on the clothesline (colours may fade over time if in the sunshine for too long) or b) tumble dry on the lowest heat setting for 30 minutes. If your dryer is too hot, it could melt the inner TPU layer so please closely monitor which setting you use to dry your blanket for the first few washes so you can get to know the ideal length of time and setting to use for your size and style of blanket. If the inner layer melts in the dryer, Splash Blanket™ is not liable for any damage as every dryer has different heat settings and standards. NOTE: Using the dryer may keep your blanket fluffier and softer compared to drying on the clothesline.

WARNING: Do not iron or dry clean and do not use fabric softener, bleach or vinegar on your blanket as it may compromise the integrity of the TPU layer.

If you notice your blanket has a scent or a smell after washing, you may want to add a tablespoon of bicarb or wash on a longer and slightly warmer cycle with more washing detergent, and tumble dry.

The larger blankets may take a while to dry on the clothes hanger especially if you live in a cooler climate and don't have access to a clothes line with direct sunshine. So we do highly recommend tumble drying the larger size blanket. It also keeps them nice and fluffy!

Splash Mats Cleaning Instructions

For small amounts of liquid, stains or spills, we recommend spot-cleaning the mat with warm soapy water and letting it dry. For larger "spills" simply rinse off with a hose (the wide-soft spray setting rather than forceful and direct) or under a detachable shower head. When using a hose to rinse off, we suggest waiting for a sunny day so the mat can dry quicker. You can also place it in front of a heater, fireplace or over a clothes-horse or clothes-line to air dry.
